You asked, we answered.
How much does it cost to remove a tree?
Following a meeting and on-site assessment, we provide custom quotations for all of our clients. Tree removal prices vary greatly and are dependent on many factors such as accessibility, landscape, equipment, tree size, drop zone, felling areas, etc. The ultimate determining factor for the price of a removal is time. That is, the amount of time will it take to safely remove the tree given the aforementioned factors.
If I send you a picture of the tree, can you give me a price?
Pictures can help, however we will need to personally look at every job in order to give a credible estimate.

How much does it cost for a consultation/estimate, and what can we expect?
We provide Free Estimates. You can expect us to arrive within the provided 2-hour window of time, greet you respectfully, and address any of your immediate concerns. As ISA Certified Arborists, we also feel it is our duty to bring any safety or tree health concerns to your attention that we see while on site.
Do I need to be present for the free estimate?
Not necessarily. We can develop an estimate as long as we have a good explanation of the situation. In a case such as this, it helps if the trees are marked. We recommend tying a ribbon around the tree(s) in question. Paint also works however it is not as easily removed from the tree.
Do I need to be present in order for you to do the contracted work?
You do not need to be there unless you prefer to be. When the work is complete we will email (or mail if you prefer) an invoice which contains the necessary information to make your payment. It should be noted that we only employ college graduates with certified records, so rest assured you will have upstanding and quality individuals on your property at all times.
How did you get your rope all the way up in that tree?
We use what is called a "throw ball", which is a weighted bag attached to a long thin line. Years of training and experience have honed our ability to strategically throw this ball up and over a safe and secure crotch of the tree, also called our "tie-in point". The weighted ball then falls to the ground where we attach our rope, which can then be pulled up and over the tie-in point and back down, ultimately being secured to the base of the tree. We can then make our ascent into the tree for pruning or removal.
I have a tree that needs to be "topped".
We do not "top" trees. Tree topping is a very poor practice that is harmful for a tree. This article available from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) explains Why Topping Hurts Trees. If a tree service is willing to perform this service, it is likely that an ISA Certified Arborist is not employed. This tree service should be immediately discredited.
How do you charge for stump grinding?
This is an industry standard process where a measurement of the diameter of the tree is taken at the base, sometimes including the outlying roots. The cost is is determined by the total length of this diameter, measured in feet.
What will be left once the stump is removed?
Our equipment grinds away the stump, leaving a mixture of "stump grindings" and soil. We price stump removals 2 ways. The first and most common service is to simply grind the stump, leaving the aerated soil and grindings to settle back in the space where the stump used to be. The second is to grind the stump and remove the grindings, leaving a flat surface. The cost to grind the stump and remove the grindings is double the amount of simply grinding the stump.
How far down will the stump grinder reach and will I be able to replant a tree?
Our stump grinder will reach a depth of about 18" into the ground. This is a standard and reliable way to remove all or most of the roots. Anything more risks the possibility of damaging a utility line.
Do you need to prune a tree while the leaves are still on?
No. We prune trees all year long. We do not need to observe leaf growth in order to determine which branches need to be trimmed. There are several ways to determine what is dead or alive. Kruljac Tree Services only employs Certified Arborists to do tree work, so you are in good hands.
When is it safe to prune an Oak or Elm tree?
Oak and Elm trees can only be pruned while the tree is dormant. While the exact dates vary, this is usually the end of October until the end of March. The ISA determines the exact dates, which we strictly adhere to. Cutting into an Oak tree when the tree is not in a dormant state, can risk the spread of Oak Wilt disease, which can kill your tree. Cutting into an Elm tree when the tree is not in a dormant state, can risk the spread of Dutch Elm disease, which can kill your tree. Both of these diseases are a very serious, and can potentially spread through the root system to adjacent trees. Kruljac Tree Services recognizes the fact that not everyone will use our services, but please be advised, it is in your best interest to only use a service that employs ISA Certified Arborists.
Will it save me money if I keep the firewood?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Everything equates to time. If you want to keep all the wood, having us cut it all to 18" lengths, we will gladly do so.
How will you remove my tree if there is a swing set or patio (or other structure) below it?
Rest assured, we will determine the safest, most effective way to remove the tree material. If there are objects below the tree, we will temporarily move them where possible. We will not simply drop large branches onto something that can be damaged. Branches are often lowered under control, using ropes and various rigging equipment. Kruljac Tree Services has never incurred a Work Loss injury. Also, while we carry both, we have never had a Liability Insurance or Workers Compensation claim. We take an extreme amount of pride in these facts.
How will you get your bucket truck in a spot that will reach my tree?
We do not use a bucket truck. We use state of the art climbing gear to climb the tree, resulting in an extremely un-invasive service. Many tree services rely on a bucket truck because any employee can get in and start cutting. In our 40+ years of combined experience, we have NEVER needed a bucket truck to perform our work. Remember, a bucket truck is a large and extremely heave piece of equipment, and could damage your property. Be wary of tree services that only use a bucket truck to do their work.
